Thinking ahead for the time when you may no longer be as active as you are now is, unfortunately something that needs to be addressed from time to time. While it may not be something you want to think about, planning ahead when it comes to your home is a wise thing to do. What would be some of the things to start thinking about?
Of course, living a lifestyle that is as healthy and active as possible is the main key when it comes to planning ahead, but here are some other suggestions to keep in mind as well.
Its important to talk through your plans with family members. For example, will you want to always live in the house you are in now, or would you be happy in a smaller one story home? It is important that they know so as to make a good decision for you, should the need arise.
Look through your finances and retirement plans. Homes need constant maintenance, maybe it would be wise to set aside a separate account especially for the maintenance of the house.
Is there room in your budget now to have some of the more major projects you might want to do in the future? Perhaps you have been thinking about renovating certain areas of the home. Now would also be a good time to look at major areas of the house such as the roof or heating system etc. so that you don’t have any unfortunate surprises at a time when it may be harder for you to do something about it.
We would be happy to schedule an inspection for you to assess what kinds of problems could arise in the future.
